The magnetorquers will be used to stabilize and control the orientation of the satellite. The satellite rotates when an electric current is applied to the magnetorquers which cause them to generate a magnetic field which interfaces with the earth's magnetic field creating a torque. Proper orientation is important for the satellites communication with the ground station. While the satellite does control critical function, losing communication with the ground station will cause it to lose functionality.
