FIELD ORIENTED CONTROL MOTOR DRIVER

A mount for the encoder was designed using Solidworks and manufactured using a 3D printer. The requirements for the mount was that the absolute encoder sensors had to be centered with the diametric magnet on the back of the motor and had to be under 20mm away from the magnet. It was also desired that the mount be dual functioned and could also be used to mount the motor onto a test jig.

The 4-pronged mount attaches to the back of motor plate via 4 screws and has 3 screw holes for mounting the encoder PCB and 4 screw holes for mounting the motor onto the test jig. The challenging part of this design is that the encoder chip is not centered on the PCB and to find an orientation for which the encoder fits without interfering with the screws connecting the mount to the motor. The notch cut out of the center of the mount is so the user can visually check that the encoder is properly line up.

The mount is meant to demo how the encoder could be mounted onto the back of the motor and isn’t include in the final product because it is motor specific.
